Make an UNCUT video of you performing any XCM moves you like with one exception, no cuts.
This round is designed for you to show us your fans, armspreads, and other work that does not involve cuts.
Getting more technical on what is a "cut". We do not mean that the cards cannot be "cut"... just that you should perform a variety of categories outside of the tradition card "cut" move category such as charliers, thumbcuts, cobras, display cuts, sybils, impossible stacks and so on. If the intent of the move isn't a cut, but cuts the cards or uses a cut like motion, then don't worry about it... if for example - throwing a card, separating a deck or something like this, then we won't classify it as a cut. After all card throwing or deck separations are their own category and wouldn't fall into the "cut" category even if they use a similar motion.
Displays Cuts can be tricky so it's best to leave them alone...
When it doubt - remember that the intent of this round is to showcase other moves such as armspreads, springs, spreads, fans and so on. So if the end result resembles or looks like you intended to perform a card cut, then it's best to probably stay away from it. You'll have plenty of other rounds to use your cut or cut-like moves. I'm sure you HLers have hours of non-cut like moves so use them, and if you don't, then you should.
Video length - no more than 1 minute 30 seconds or there-abouts. You can have an edited intro - taunting or something cool of your choice, but the actual video must be uncut. You can edit the color of the video, but nothing else. No speeding up, and no cutting the footage. With intro your video can't exceed 2 minutes total. No one will cry about a few seconds here or there, but try to adhere to the time limit.
Uploading your video - you can use youtube/putfile/vimeo or most any other sources that stream. We prefer you not use megaupload/rapidshare or some of the others that you have to actually download the video.
You must show your face somewhere in the video.
You must show a piece of paper (you can write on it if you like) of your choice somewhere in the video so we know that the video was made specifically for this tournament.
In the beginning of your video, place these items:
ROUND #1
YOUR NAME
VS.
YOUR OPPONENTS NAME
Please include the URLs: WWW.SUPERHANDZ.COM AND WWW.HANDLORDZ.COM at the end of your video.
Move/credits are not required because this is a "performance" video. Move credits make the video longer and some people improperly credit people that didn't even create the moves they are doing. It's best to leave off move credits for this tournament. Feel free to use them in your own personal videos, however for the tournament, we are more focused on your personal performance than who created what.
Deck requirements:
Use any deck you like. You can use the box/clips/multiple decks, mini decks. No other objects though and please do not use a table - table rounds come later
Videos are due on Monday 21 July 2008 - In these early rounds, there are no exceptions to the rule! You have 2 weeks to shoot and edit your video so it's plenty of time. Please make your deadlines! If you cannot submit a video, you will be automatically kicked out the tournament. If you feel you can't do a proper video, submit something and you will only lose the round.
Tournament - this is a double elimination tournament meaning that you have to loose 2 times before you are completely kicked out. We have had a person from the loser's bracket come back and win the entire tourney so if you loose one, that doesn't mean anything. Everyone in this tournament except one person will lose at least one time, so don't get discouraged! Keep at it and give each video your all! We find very often that on some of the more rare XCM categories that someone unexpected will come forward and blow us away! The rare cats are not widely explored or mastered so you just never know... give it your best, and see where the cards lay.
The real prize - The real prize of this tournament is the push you get from battling other artists, the drive you need to try something new and different and improve yourself. We have seen people that take this tourney seriously improve in leaps and bounds! It's amazing to see how artists grow from this experience. There is nothing else like this tournament in the world short of going to Ulmen that will improve your creativity, style, and give you the push you need to become a better artist.
Tourney brackets will be coming in the next couple of days. Until then, work on your routine/video. It shouldn't matter who you battle, give it your best shot! But it's nice to know and they will be coming soon.
TIPS FROM DE'VO:
Here are some tips. People that create flowing/original routines do very well in this tournament! Review the judging criteria:
Creativity - how creative you are (not just moves but overall)
Routining - how your uncut routine flows
Difficulty - what the difficulty level was
Cool Factor - and overall coolness of the video
Technique - Technique is the difference between good moves and crappy moves, moves that are properly executed and those that aren't.
I will tell you that those video that are different, and capture attention will go very far. If you are creative and package it nicely, your creativity/cool factor will be very very good! You can be great at stock moves but lose to someone that does things their way and has their own style. Take a risk, be different, be artful, and have fun - if you do those things, you should do very well. Also frame your videos like pieces of art! If you are sitting on your bed in a T-shirt doing deck twirls or charlier passes, your score won't be very good. Film with a decent background, dress the part, for the love of god put some effort into your entry! If you do, it will reflect in your points and you'll have a good chance at taking the World XCM Champion title
Best of luck to all! I look forward to seeing each and every one of your videos. This is the Superhandz World XCM Tournament and thousands from around the globe will be watching as well.
There is allot on the line.... LET THE BATTLEZ BEGIN!
Please feel free to post questions you may have.
Take care,
De'vo
